Campaign | Ghalia | Handbags

'GHALIA' is the fifth collection from luxury handbag brand ALIEL, founded in 2017 by Egyptian designer Leila Abo Tira. In a family of fine leather-manufacturers, Tira, a 29-year-old marketing graduate, founded ALIEL out of a love for art. Her handbags are not just style statements but a journey of self; Leila backwards is ALIEL - a direct representation of her self expressionism achieved through art.
'Ghalia' in Arabic translates as 'precious', which demonstrates the richness of the bags, but also the creative journey behind them. The campaign is all about the pursuit of Ghalia, captured underwater, it submerges us into a new world of discovery - a discovery of this new collection. ALIEL summarised their inspiration in a single quote, "as you learn to meditate you discover that your mind is not easy to silence. Below the surface is easier to find purity, tranquillity and serenity." This campaign is also about the metaphorical experience of connecting deeper with yourself. It's the act of unearthing mysterious surfaces, escaping the world's norm and feeling the fluid weightlessness of the waters; with a dream-like quality, the models float in flamboyant outfits which compliment the bags. Beneath the surface one will find the preciousness that the Ghalia collection holds, whilst also finding the precious qualities in life - ALIEL seamlessly blends the two notions within this imagery.

This new collection has a pop of colour for the summertime including, crocodile green, Tuscan sun yellow, coral orange, midnight black, salmon and pearl white - the colours feel reminiscent of precious jewels. Each bag is complimented with two chains, one of vibrant agate stones and the other, gold - these chains allow for versatile wearing and different styling options. The bags themselves are crafted from synthetic leather and polyurethane. Also, there is a subtle style change for ALIEL from the previous collections that featured circle and square handbags, these are all rectangle.

ALIEL'S previous collections, Half Moon, Moon Lift, Horra and Mow have all expressed a desire to accentuate one's individualism and freedom. This new collection inspires you to reflect on your lifestyle, it is a beautiful example of how Tira turns possessions into art forms. The campaign, encircled in the brilliant blue of the waters, is a splash of vibrancy! This is a very exciting collection and brand to discover this summer.
