Every week ROUGH ONLINE in collaboration with Music News and Liberty Music looks at the best new releases from emerging and self-releasing artists. See more from below.

KYRI – ‘Sanctuary’

As a classically trained pianist, emerging singer and songwriter KYRI has been immersed in music from a very young age. With inspirations coming from his love of gospel and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, he bares his soul on his latest release ‘Sanctuary’. Taking cues from The Weeknd, his latest offering blends bold production with a piano-led melody that has quickly become the trademark sound of this ever-impressive new artist.

Alex Starling – ‘We Lie To Ourselves’

Originally making his mark as an integral member of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, before the untimely death of bandmate Charlie Haddon in 2010, London-based singer and songwriter Alex Starling has taken a sharp turn in direction with his solo material as he now unveils his debut single ‘We Lie To Ourselves’. Mixing humble pop ballads with an energetic synth-pop bed, his initial release reintroduces him as a fresh and exciting name to keep an eye on.

D’melo – ‘Come To Party’

Having Nigerian parents but being raised in London has been the core inspiration behind the sound of D’melo. With nods to his African roots but adopting an Anglo-centric aesthetic, he now returns with his latest jam ‘Come To Party’. Lifted from his forthcoming debut EP, this new urban-pop release sees him take cues from artists like Ramz and J Hus with its smooth yet pulsing direction.

Akurei – ‘Quarter Tank Full’

With his previously shared singles ‘Stockholm’ and ‘Hollow’ impressing us earlier this year, Australian singer and producer Akurei has now unveiled his highly anticipated new EP ‘September’, alongside its impressive new focus track ‘Quarter Tank Full’. Combining his smooth and soaring vocals with a hip-hop-inspired beat gives this new offering a broad and multifaceted feel that has quickly become the hallmark of this growing talent.

boerd – ‘Before We Drown’ ft. Stella Explorer

With his forthcoming new album ‘Misplaced’ set to arrive later this year, Swedish producer boerd now gives us the latest insight into what we should expect with the wonderfully dreamy ‘Before We Drown’. Working alongside singer Stella Explorer, this new cut sees him step away from his normally ambient aesthetic to deliver a pulsing and driven slice of trip-hop.

Emily Litta – ‘+1’

With a mixed family background that includes Kiwi and Italian, London-based singer Emily Litta has always wanted to reflect a multicultural tone within her music and now returns with her latest soul-dripping single ‘+1’. Taking elements of jazz, hip-hop, RnB and funk, her latest release delivers a broad and groove-filled aesthetic as she takes cues from contemporaries such as Alessia Cara.

KELAA – ‘Serefe’

With her debut single ‘Good Things’ making a bold and impressive impact upon its release, Swedish singer and producer KELAA now looks to continue her upward ascent as she shares her latest single ‘Serefe’. Taking influence from fellow Swedes Robyn and Popkollo, this new release brings a warm and lofty side to the commercial pop sound, securing her legacy as a forward-thinking and progressive new artist.

ELOI – ‘Vertigo’

Since releasing her debut single ‘Frenemies’ last month, London-based singer and songwriter ELOI has seen her profile explode these last few weeks as she now looks to capitalise on her newfound buzz with its sensual follow-up ‘Vertigo’. Taking her affinity of electronica, RnB and pop to the next level, her latest offering delivers a warm and enticing blend of lofty vocals and a synth-pop bed on this exciting return.
