REVIEW

Every week ROUGH ONLINE in collaboration with Music News and Liberty Music looks at the best new releases from emerging and self-releasing artists.
Olsen Jake – ’24 Hours’
Having grown up together in Switzerland, pop-rock newcomers Olsen Jake have now relocated to the UK as they unveil their debut single ’24 Hours’. With influences that range from U2 to Chainsmokers, this vibrant new release sees the trio take the same anthemic sound as Bastille to their new offering, making for one bold and exciting introduction.

Tim Rose – ‘Left On Read’
Following on from his heavily praised EP ‘<3’ released last year, Hawaii-based singer and songwriter Tim Rose now kicks off his 2019 with the release of his latest jam ‘Left On Read’. Channelling the flair and tenacity of retro funk artists such as Prince and Parliament, the frontman delivers a guitar-lick-filled anthem that cements his love for the sound, while also keeping his direction fresh and enticing.

The Outside Chancers – ‘The Cloud Bursts’
Having been a force to be reckoned with in America’s vibrant country music scene, The Outside Chancers now look to dip their toes in international waters as they deliver their debut UK single ‘The Cloud Bursts’. With a classic country vibe that also pays lip service to more modern acts like The Black Keys, the band manage to create a wild and tenacious sound with their initial offering, making them one to keep a close eye on.

HOLT – ‘Tower’
As a self-taught singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, London’s HOLT has always looked to create music her own way. And with her new EP set to arrive in the near future, the frontwoman has continued the charge with her latest cut ‘Tower’. Bringing the lofty sounds of artists like Anna Meredith and Bat For Lashes into her work has led her down a path of sweeping and ethereal compositions, and ‘Tower’ looks set to be her grandest release to date.

Marta – ‘Holy Grail’
With her debut single ‘All About Us’ garnering huge international acclaim, as well as being featured on the soundtrack to mobile games ‘Dancing Line’ and ‘Piano Tiles 2’, Marta now looks to continue her upward ascent with the release of ‘Holy Grail’. Treading a similar path to Taylor Swift by reinventing country music with a pop aesthetic, ‘Holy Grail’ is a smooth and sensual return for the singer, highlighting her beautifully yearning vocals.

Indi & The Vegas – ‘Round And Round’ ft. Daniela
With dancehall music slowly making its way into the commercial scene, Indi & The Vegas are looking to do something a bit different with the sound as they share their latest work ‘Round And Round’. Featuring the bold and impassioned vocals of Daniela, the trio channel the groove-filled vibe of acts like Milky Chance to add a more contemporary vision for this fresh and sunshine-filled dancefloor filler.

MarcLo & Pretty Sister - 'Poolside Vibe'
As a founding member of the Grammy nominated production group The Monsters & Strangerz, whose previous credits include Kanye West, Jason DeRulo and Jennifer Lopez, producer MarcLo is no stranger to putting together an anthem as he now releases his new single ‘Poolside Sister’. Joined alongside the emerging talents of Pretty Sister, the pair deliver up a smooth and sensual slice of sun-kissed soul, fused with a strong pop aesthetic.

David Ellis – ‘Baby She Roam’
Continuing on from the self-described “pagan rock” sound he introduced us to on his last single ‘Eyes To The Sky’, London-based singer and songwriter David Ellis now returns with his latest release ‘Baby She Roam’. Lifted from highly anticipated forthcoming debut album ‘Misty Heights’, the frontman brings along a wave of smooth 70s folk-inspired tones that aim to cement him as one of the more uplifting emerging artists of today.

Groove Delight – ‘G4nj4’ (AYOO Remix)
With the pair already hammering this out during their live sets over the past few months, Chicago-based production duo AYOO now return to deliver their long awaited remix of Groove Delight’s ‘G4nj4’. Bringing the same thunderous beats and enormous basslines the two are known for, this reinvented vision of the original release looks set to shake the walls and floors of any club set that it touches.

Alex Mali – ‘Start It Up’
With a Jamaican mother and Trinidadian father, Brooklyn-based artist Alex Mali has always looked to incorporate culturally diverse sounds into her music. And after a string of high profile releases, she returns with her latest offering ‘Start It Up’. Lifted from her eagerly awaited debut EP ‘Sweet & Sour’, this new jam blends sensual RnB with a smooth dancehall-inspired beat that lends itself to a dancefloor as much as a laid-back chilled environment.
