Review

I have been super excited about Ollie's House for a while, having seen their stunning photos on Instagram and hearing great things from fellow foodies. Ollie’s House restaurant serves up a menu of Asian-inspired dishes and is located on the corner of Hollywood Road and Fulham Road. Up until the evening, customers can choose from a variety of brunch items and specialty coffee before moving on to fusion cuisine, curries, noodles, and other options – think Asian fusion mains like butter chicken parmie, classic Thai green curry and indulgent Hong Kong French toast with peanut butter, banana and dulce de leche. All lovingly crafted by their wonderful team of chefs. Additionally, diners can partake in refreshing cocktails, and did we mention that there are children and dog-friendly menus and activities available?! There’s also a bakery and deli counter for fast snacks or meals on the go.

I immediately feel at home when I enter - it felt like a tropical island, or retreat if you will and there’s even a swing! Light marble tables that are evenly spaced apart, cabana style booths and low-hanging lamps add a warm glow whilst the green draping plants add a decorative boost. A distinct yet laid-back décor and warm staff contributed to the festive, relaxed vibe. The menu offers delectable variations on your favourite classic foods. There are many different dining options, ranging from conventional healthy bowls and small plates to indulgent large plates and sharing dishes. Authentic, vibrant, and fresh—are all attributes influenced by founder and owner Oliver Norcliffe's international travels to Indonesia and the Philippines:

“I am so happy to have finally made my dream a reality. Inspired by travels abroad, Ollie’s House is meant to feel like a tropical escape from the hustle and bustle of London. I truly believe we have created this and our regulars seem to think so too… Ollie’s is for everyone, where we find calm in chaos, in a relaxing and laid back environment.” - Oliver Norcliffe, Founder and owner of Ollie’s House.

After our lovely waitress talks us through their most popular dishes, we combine her recommendations with our own preferences and giddily await the arrival of our feast. Within moments, our dishes came out one by one. Ollie’s fried chicken (OFC) is their take on the Korean fried chicken (KFC) of Asian marinated, double fried chunks of chicken breast served with a chili mayo – this had a pleasant crunch and crackle in a deliciously simple way. The popcorn shrimp tacos toastie – Ollie’s take on the classic prawn sandwich, was the winner of the night. Understated in presentation, but mighty in flavour. The mouthwatering jumbo prawns, chilli & butter sauce, sandwiched between two crisp wontons, harmonised with my taste-buds.

Topped with a thick cheesy and smoked ham layer, the butter chicken parmie, served with fries, was heavenly. The incredibly crispy, thai marinated batter and mozzarella, tore away to reveal a tender, juicy chicken breast.

The Ollie’s Korean fried chicken burger glistened in the soft bun, as bright vegetables (kimchi, smacked cucumbers and shredded lettuce) and the fries, accessorised the plate to create an attractive dish almost big enough for two to enjoy. Big, firm, chunks of silky smooth and lightly fried halloumi fries paired perfectly with the mains. The food at Ollie’s is super moreish and addictive, without being too salty and greasy. Yum.

We didn’t quite make it to dessert, but that’s on our list for our next visit.

This tropical neighbourhood escape offers something for everyone with its extensive food list, comfortable seating, and welcoming atmosphere. Ollie's House is an all-day kitchen and lounge, perfect for couples, families, and large groups - no matter what your plans are, they've got you covered.
