Polartropica is the brainchild of Taiwanese American Ihui Cherise Wu. The Los Angeles based artist weaves a spectacular web of psychedelic space pop with the new title Olympia and its colorful visual. Inspired by the wave of political events sweeping the globe, the single implores the listener not to give up, nor give in.
Its opening catches pull a very familiar retro 60s drum cadence we'd quickly identify with the soul pop wave of that era. But this is a bit different. It could take on a very retro Mod approach. Instead, it goes hard in the paint with a melody line that surprisingly courses through its verses and refrains in a way we don't commonly expect of current trending music. This is different. Yes, different.
And different is a breath of fresh air. Olympia is a hypnotizing visual to behold with its pastel colors and its trio of female protagonists dancing before the camera. Just what the video is about is open for interpretation. But it has a knack for keeping you glued from frame to frame.
