A natural at the piano, as he is already a member of critically acclaimed band Dead Can Dance, keyboardist and Belfast’s newest Folk sensation Jules Maxwell has recently dropped a track entitled “Blowtorch” which has melted ROUGH ONLINE's hearts, with its’ beautifully melancholic sound and his raw, emotional vocal performance reminiscent of Damien Rice and musically, with its’ masterfully played, arpeggiated acoustic guitar, comes across like a throwback fusion of 80’s and 90’s Beverley Craven and Suzanne Vega at times. His classical-influenced piano playing and the simply emotive string arrangement both complement each other perfectly, and builds up nicely to Blowtorch’s memorable chorus, which delivers the heartfelt lyrics “beauty, always devastating beauty, why keep beauty locked up in a box,” sung in his unique, fragile tone.

Overall, it is a pure, understated musical moment that you could easily hear on the soundtrack of an ole-skool, 70’s road movie, and Rough love that Maxwell has kept things authentic and traditional of Irish-influenced folk music on his brand new song, which features on his new album “Songs From The Cultural Backwater” out now on all online stores. And don’t forget to the check out the illustration work of ex-band member of The Cure, Perry Bamonte on Blowtorch’s new music video on YouTube. Jules Maxwell...thank you for delivering real music that Rough could listen to all day long.
