Conventionally, US or UK would have been the place for
Jiri Kalfar
to showcase his collection. Still, instead, Prague his hometown became the location for his Spring/Summer 2021 digital catwalk presentation during Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Week.
The fashion industry is now adapting to a new routine of doing things. Education is one of the methods as a reflection on how to achieve a new system and innovation. Kalfar seems to have found the answer through digitally presenting SS2021 collection by providing the audience VR glasses, which allowed them to experience the show in complete safety.
The presentation was a dialogue between the human and the digital touch and how the inner values of craftmanship – creativity, imagination, and emotion can be delivered within the confines of the artifice of the online screen.
The collection highlights white as the primary colour, which signifies a clear slate and espousing the significance of lineage. Diverse materials including Buddhist ahimsa silk, vegan leather, pineapple and mushroom leather, to name a few went to into creating the collection pieces. Showing that a show can be brought to life while respecting the planet and its resources. A topic to which Kalfar is no stranger in his designs.
"The world has changed in a matter of months, and it is necessary now more than ever to take responsibility and make a positive change - Jiri continues to stand by the philosophy of ethical and sustainable fashion,'' explains the designer Jiri Kalfar.Jiri Kalfar's Spring Summer 2021 symbolises the perfect canvases for rebuilding the future of fashion and fighting for a greener and fairer industry.
