Brooklyn -born talented artist, Jason Innocent is pleased to announce his upcoming solo exhibition 'Bold Stripes, Bright Stars, and Social Issues' on the 24th October 2019. This makes the famed artist's second solo exhibition and will run-through for one evening and two days only during irregular gallery hours. The Bold Stripes, Bright Stars, Social Issues are among a selection of one large print image of the American flag reinterpret.
Sharing his thoughts on world issues and its happenings, Jason had this to say..."The world is currently going through its worse phase, a lot of vices are happening day after day, terrorist attacks, racism is on the rise, hatefulness only but to mention a few. The world today needs people to come together, with a united voice to stand up against all the evil happening in our time.''
The American flag represents so many things for every individual especially, to its citizens. There is much more to it than the expected symbolism behind its stars and stripes – be it nationalist pride or the American Dream. For others, the opposite rings true, with this set of individuals taking an individualistic approach towards Old Glory. Innocent has chosen to examine this enthralling dichotomy, usurping its image to build works that question onlookers' understandings and dogmas.
Innocent uses his art to express his opinion on the world's social issues and that of America. He does this by using his unorthodox typography to create an American Flag 2017 which includes text like NO RACISM, NO SEXISM, NO ABLEISM, NO FATPHOBIA, NO AGEISM, NO TRANSPHOBIA, NO HOMOPHOBIA, and NO HATEFULNESS.
The upcoming solo exhibition by Jason Innocent runs from the 24th-26th October at 526 East 11th Street, New York. This is a must-see show that should not be missed.
