ARCHIE FAULKS Releases Debut Single 'It Rains'

London’s new folk singer and songwriter Archie Faulks has pulled on the heartstrings with his new single “It Rains,” which when hearing his effortless finger picking on the acoustic guitar, you are instantly thrown back to Lisa Loeb’s famous opening riff on her 1994 Billboard, hit number 1 song “Stay,” whilst also delivering a similar tempo and overall musical vibe to Damien Rice’s “Connonball.” Despite the difference in sound, you are occasionally reminded of Thom Yorke’s heartfelt vocals, such as his captivating vocal performance on Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees” when listening to Archie’s emotional voice, whilst he delivers great harmonies in the chorus section that throw us back to the singing of Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil, with profound lyrics like “cause’ when it rains, it pours and then it rains more and I’m always back at your door.”

What brings about this heart-wrenching piece, as well Archie’s genuinely sad vocals, is the masterful use of instrumentation, which includes bongo drums used to keep the mid-tempo rhythm going nicely on top of the snare, a cello which helps the song build up to the first chorus, a simple but effective piano chord structure performed alongside beautifully played violins in the second verse, a flute solo section, and overall it is two words…a masterpiece. All the song needed was a little electric in the final chorus to bring this brilliantly produced piece of music to a close, and Rough Online are very impressed with the end result.

It Rains’ official music video unexpectedly takes you on a visually surreal trip, featuring Archie sitting or standing in many different rooms within a school, whilst two female dancers perform a contemporary piece behind him, whether that be in the school classrooms or the sports room. It is as if wherever he goes, the dancers follow in a very aloof way as they make no interaction with him whatsoever. However, this spooky nature adds to the song’s overall ghostly feel and it is one worth watching and listening to, so check out Archie Faulks’ new single “It Rains” out now on all online stores.
