Agne Kuzmickaite
shares a beautiful childhood experience as a young girl growing up in the 90s in her motherland Lithuania. The story below recounted by Agne owns a massive influence in her creative design and aesthetics. A vision brought into entity in Agne Kuzmickaite Spring/summer 2021 collection.
''Growing up in the 90's, there was no actual fashion in Lithuania, no fashion shops, no fashion magazines or advertisements like the ones in big foreign cities. All this was developing, so it was fascinating to watch all the manifestations of the fashion world on TV and watch photos in magazines. The clothes brought from abroad looked utterly different - they were so different from the usual clothes worn in our country. In general, beauty was not foreign to us; only it was different. Every woman knew how to knit, often and sew crochet - but such knitted or sewn clothes could not compete with the bright, fragrant, logo-marked clothes from abroad.
Dad sometimes brought such clothes from his business trips, and seldom from friends or relatives. An instance where Dad was travelling abroad, and I desired new coloured sneakers, I wrapped my foot around cardboard with a pencil so he could have my exact foot measurement taken with him to purchase me the correct size sneakers. Such "sneakers" were later of gold value and worn for many seasons.
Another way of viewing fashion manifest itself, including the western way of life was through TV advertisements. It was a joy for me sitting in front of the TV waiting patiently for a commercial break in between a boring series showing commercials for chocolate, coffee or washing powder to be able to see how people dressed. Looking back as to why I enjoyed watching those TV commercials was down to the abundance of different bright colours which made the ads more enchanting and subsequently looking real to the naked eye. The advertising notes in its sunny, colourful state resembled a magical cloured spells from a fairy-tale realm. A scenery of my childhood dreams brought into reality in my Spring/Summer 2021 collection.''
